UPDATED: JD & Jessica do the Houston Chronicle

UPDATE: Here’s a scan of the article. We hit a couple grocery stores in Sugar Land, and I think we cleared half the city of its Houston Chronicle circulation for the day.

Woohoo! At long last, we’ve been featured in the Houston Chronicle. I was starting to worry that they’d given up on us, what with the whole self-portrait saga and all. But I just got a link to the online version of our story this morning!

An excerpt:

As founders of Snaptacular Photos, Jessica and JD work side-by-side managing their wedding photography business from home. However, they both have specific roles.

“JD is the primary photographer — he is the artistic and creative one,” said Jessica, a University of Houston graduate who married JD in April. “I’m the person that talks to everyone. I do the marketing, handle the business end. We make up where the other one lacks and it comes together really well.”

While JD has been a freelance photographer for seven years, the couple only decided a year ago to start Snaptacular Photos. Weddings and pet portraits make up the majority of their business, which has been steadily growing.

Born into a family of artists, JD said he didn’t originally set out to work as a professional photographer.

“When I first went to college, I had hopes for being an astronaut,” said JD, 30, who graduated from the University of Colorado in 2001. “I tried aerospace engineering and I found out I’m not an engineer at heart. I drifted back to art and wanted to do photography.”

While the couple was dating for the past few years, JD worked for a separate company as a photographer. Jessica said she saw the work he did and passion he had for taking pictures, and thought he could make it on his own.

…and so on and so on. I just knew they were going to use the astronaut bit!

Check it out!

Couple blend married, work life together

It’s on the Chronicle website right now. It will be printed (with a photo!) very soon-I’ll let you know when that hits!

Oh, and for the record, they chose this one:

Yay for us! Now, we just have to scramble to launch our new website ASAP!

Did you notice that they changed something between the website and the paper? It says in the article on the website, “‘He loved photography before he loved me!’” and in the paper, it says, “‘He loved photography more he than me.’” How dare they!

Haha. You are such a good English major! They changed it online because I was misquoted. I actually said BEFORE. He would be in so much trouble if he loved photography more than me!
